“Mimy & Tony” showcases the unparalleled bond between a mother and son. Mimy Succar, a Peruvian-Japanese artist, collaborates with her talented son, Tony Succar, a Grammy Award and two-time Latin Grammy Award winner, to create a powerful musical experience. This album, available on various streaming platforms and in physical CD format, represents the merging of generations and cultures. It combines the wisdom gained through years of experience with a modern and groundbreaking approach. “Mimy & Tony” celebrates beloved classics from Latin American artists while also introducing original hits by Mimy. Both Mimy and Tony shine on this project, not only as a remarkable mother-son duo but also as exceptional artists and creative partners.
Fans were treated to the exciting debut of “Mimy & Tony” in 2022, starting with the single “No Me Acostumbro,” a bolero rendition of a hit song by Cuban composer Jorge Luis Piloto. This was followed by two breathtaking original tracks, “Sin Fronteras” featuring La India and Haila Mompie, and “Pa’ Lante un Pie’,” and later on, “Quimbara,” a cover of Celia Cruz’s iconic salsa hit. The project also boasts an impressive lineup of guest stars, including Latin Grammy winner José Alberto “El Canario,” Nora Suzuki from Orquesta De La Luz, Kenyi (Mimy’s son and a talented artist who serves as a producer on the album), Cali Flow Latino, Pollo Brito, and renowned percussionist Marc Quiñones, each contributing their own distinctive musical styles to the album.
Among the captivating tracklist of “Mimy & Tony,” there is a remarkable standout, “Sukiyaki” featuring Nora Suzuki. This iconic Japanese song, originally released by Kyu Sakamoto in 1961 and covered numerous times, now receives a tropical twist. For the first time, the song combines Latin and Japanese influences, incorporating traditional Japanese instruments like the koto and taiko drums. Mimy and Nora deliver an extraordinary interpretation of this timeless classic, breaking cultural barriers by infusing it with infectious and energetic salsa rhythms, despite the Japanese lyrics. Fans can now enjoy the official music video on YouTube.
